Answer : The 'ice' George was carrying was dry ice, or frozen carbon dioxide. Dry ice comes in blocks and is used in air conditioning units. When it gets too warm it sublimates back into carbon dioxide gas. Since it was chilly out, George had his windows rolled up and so when the dry ice melted, it filled the van and he suffocated.
